SINGAPORE, 7 July 2010 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) and IAHGames are leading the FIFA World Cup™ celebrations in Indonesia with the launch of EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2 on the archipelago.
The official online adaptation of the globally popular EA SPORTS FIFA video games series has grown to become the biggest online football game in Asia, and has been hugely popular with fans in South East Asia since IAHGames brought the game to the region last year.
EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 promises realistic game play and special features such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ game mode which will allow Indonesians to lead their country to World Cup glory in the game. In addition to providing dedicated tech support for Indonesian gamers, IAHGames is supporting the local gaming community by sending an Indonesian representative to compete in the 2010 Hyundai Motor Cup EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 Championship in Busan, South Korea.
“Given the popularity of football in Indonesia, coupled with the authenticity and excitement that FIFA Online 2 brings to the virtual football pitch, we are very excited and confident that IAHGames’ launch of FIFA Online 2 in Indonesia will be well received by Indonesian gamers and football fans”, said Tuan Pham, Country Manager for Online, South East Asia, EA Asia.
“We are pleased to be able to bring this world class title to Indonesia gamers as well as football fans. The game has been very successful in the other territories that we have launched it in and we are committed to bring to Indonesia the same world class gaming experience as gamers all across the region are experiencing,” said Roland Ong, CEO of IAHGames.
In addition to Indonesia, IAHGames currently holds the operating rights for EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 in the region including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Brunei and the Philippines.
In a show of its commitment to the Indonesian gaming community, IAHGames has handpicked Villi Desilva Christ Warouw as the Indonesian representative at the 2010 Hyundai Motor Cup EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 Championship, which is one of the premier online gaming events in Asia. One of the top EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 gamers in Indonesia, Villi finished first in the FIFA 08 Asian qualifiers for the 2008 World Cyber Games. It is hoped that a good performance by Villi at the tournament will raise the profile of the Indonesian gaming community and inspire his fellow Indonesians to take part in more online gaming competitions.
“Indonesia is a country that takes its football seriously and we’re excited to serve the growing FIFA Online 2 community here. Having seen the quality of football gamers here, we are very excited and keen to hold national gaming tournaments and give the Indonesian gamers a chance to represent their country in future,” said Jonathon Sze, General Manager for EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2, at IAHGames.
EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 is free-to-play but gamers can enhance their teams and players by purchasing in-game items. In-game items can be bought by topping up their game accounts with game value codes, soon to be available in all Indomaret outlets and cybercafés. SPIN vouchers can also be used to top up game accounts.
Operated by IAHGames, EA SPORTS FIFA Online 2 is the online version of blockbuster EA SPORTS FIFA football game franchise. Soon to be upgraded with an improved graphics engine, gamers can build their very own football empires using real-life players and teams. Gamers can also choose to play through a season in single-player mode or play against other gamers. Playing matches earns League Points (LP), which is the in-game currency used to buy players. As gamers play more matches, they can afford better players to improve their team. The new 2010 FIFA World Cup game mode will feature the full 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament structure. Featuring all 199 national teams that took part in qualification, gamers can play as any of the 32 2010 FIFA World Cup finalists like Japan, Brazil, Spain and England or any of the other 167 national teams.
