Get set for a series of travelogue-style articles on GamesTown, the latest place on the ‘net for gamers for hang out and rant. We made correspondent Meredith Woo pack her bags and hustled her off to this new frontier…

I was bushed. Relocation was indeed tiring. I was definitely excited, but all that packing, moving and paperwork had left me drained. Thank goodness I lived alone back in my Dragonican suburb – I did not have much to lug over to my new place.

I was dozing off when the bus pulled over, screeching to a halt. Jerking awake, my bagpack that contained all of my worldly possessions almost slipped out of my grasp and my forehead hit the window. “Ow—“ I started to exclaim, before my heart leapt for joy upon realizing I had reached my destination! GamesTown!

When I got off the bus, everyone seemed to be chatting happily amongst themselves and going every which way. I followed a large group into Room 1 and found myself in the Town Centre. It was still relatively quiet, but that was to be expected as my fellow GTzens (GamesTown Citizens) were still moving into this newly constructed township.

GamesTown was built in collaboration with IAHGames for the sole purpose of bringing the entire IAHGames community together. It didn’t matter if I played Dragonica and you played FIFA Online 2; we could still be neighbours! We could gather regularly to share streaming videos, participate in events, play mini games, discuss our favourite games on the forums and even visit each other’s houses!

“Why, thank you very much for your kind greeting, o mysterious lady!”

A cute and friendly NPC stood at the gates cheerfully greeting new arrivals and offering help to those who needed directions. I saw a few guys checking her out too, but somehow they didn’t manage to get her name (neither did I).Similarly, when I stepped into the Town Centre for the first time, I was greeted by a dialogue box that had many helpful links to easy-to-understand videos! Furthermore, to my pleasant surprise, each time I watched a video for the first time, I had a special gift waiting for me in my inbox!

Pretty soon, I was educated in the workings of GamesTown – I learnt how to check my mail, add buddies, decorate my home, use emoticons and even get my very own pet! I was just about to check out my new house when I spotted a GTzen with wings. “Hi!” she exclaimed brightly. “I am your friendly neighbourhood GM (Game Master), Splash. Welcome to GamesTown, GRNLAZR!”

Friendly GMs can be spotted roaming around GamesTown, always ready to lend a helping hand and stop by for a hearty chat. [GM] Splash excitedly told me more about being a GTzen, as well as updated me on the upcoming events in GamesTown. Through chatting with her, I already felt much more at home in this exciting new neighbourhood!

Edit the information in your profile and even give yourself a customized motto! Guess what’s mine?

With this newfound knowledge, I could share with other GTzens my personal motto and even my real-life photo in my profile. This would be displayed when fellow GTzens clicked on me to view my profile. For starters, I could tell them how much I loved green lasers! PEWPEWPEW!

Did you know you could gain XP by 1) merely standing around in GamesTown 2) visiting rooms of your new friends? At certain levels, there are also Title Badges to collect! Right then I was still a Stranger, but once I hit level 6, I would be a New Migrant, and more features, functions, items and even prizes would be mine! What’s not to LOVE about being a GTzen? Phew! Too many things to learn in a day, lots of errands to run for my new house, shopping to be done, events to attend, places to explore, plus loads of people to meet! Update again next week! Till then, see you in GamesTown, my friends!
